BJP urges timely Panchayat polls after High Court order

Shimla, Jan 11 (UNI) BJP state President Rajeev Bindal welcomed the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s verdict on Panchayati Raj elections, stating that the decision was in the larger interest of the people and reinforced constitutional values and grassroots democracy in the state.
"The verdict had been widely welcomed across Himachal Pradesh, particularly in rural areas, as it ensured the timely conduct of Panchayati Raj elections and strengthened the democratic process at the grassroots level," said Bindal here on Sunday.
He said the High Court’s ruling was fully in consonance with the spirit of the Constitution and upheld the rights of rural citizens to elected local self-governance. Bindal criticised the Congress government and alleged that it had attempted to delay the Panchayati Raj elections despite the State Election Commission having completed all necessary preparations to hold the polls during December and January.
