BJP-JDS conspiring to topple Cong govt in Karnataka: alleges Dy CM

Bengaluru, Apr 28 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar on Monday accused the BJP and the JDS of allegedly conspiring to overthrow the Congress government in the state but asserted that their attempts would not succeed.
"The BJP and the JD(S) are trying to topple the Congress government in Karnataka, but Congress will return to power in the 2028 Assembly election," Shivakumar told reporters.
Highlighting the government's achievements, he said the administration had presented a budget exceeding Rs 4 lakh crore and was working with the motto of "equal rights and equal life for all."
The Deputy CM criticised the BJP and JD(S) for their "jealousy" and questioned their contributions to the welfare of women, farmers, youth, and job creation.
The remarks come close on the heels of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge alleging that the BJP was attempting to destabilise the Karnataka government through backdoor methods and cautioning Congress leaders to remain united.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah refuted BJP’s claims that the state's treasury had been emptied due to the guarantee schemes, pointing to the inauguration and foundation-laying of projects worth over ₹1,000 crore on Sunday as evidence of financial stability.
"There is no truth in BJP’s allegations. If the treasury was empty, how could we undertake projects of this scale?" Siddaramaiah asked, addressing a separate gathering.
The Chief Minister also dismissed the BJP's 'Janakrosha Yatre' campaign against the Congress government as "baseless" and "full of lies," accusing the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being responsible for the steep rise in prices of essential commodities over the past eleven years.
He asserted that the Congress government in Karnataka, unlike the BJP at the Centre, was committed to developmental works and welfare schemes, and accused the BJP of habitually using "backdoor" methods to come to power without public support.
The Karnataka BJP’s 'Janakrosha Yatre' has been aimed at highlighting alleged price rise, Muslim appeasement, and misappropriation of funds meant for Dalit welfare under the Congress government.
