BJP demands resignation of Kejriwal

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) The BJP on Friday demanded resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and said the Supreme Court, while granting bail to him in a Delhi liquor policy case, has shown a mirror to the most corrupt Chief Minister by not quashing any charge against him.

"He has got conditional bail. The 'jail wala' CM is now a 'bail wala' CM. The most important is that Arvind Kejriwal should resign as per the voice of the people of Delhi," party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said while addressing a press conference at party headquarters here.

His remarks came after the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal in a corruption case registered by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged excise policy scam.

Bhatia said Kejriwal's argument was that his arrest is illegal but the Apex Court rejected the arguments and refused to quash any charges against him.

He added that there is no question of Kejriwal’s acquittal because the trial will continue against him and the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) will have to answer why the Chief Minister is not resigning.

"He used to say that a politician should resign even if there is an allegation. And now he is out on bail, he was in jail for 6 months, but he is not resigning," the party spokesperson added.

In a scathing attack on the Kejriwal, Delhi's BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said in Kejriwal’s case the Supreme Court has made it clear that his arrest is justified and the charges against him are valid.

"Kejriwal getting conditional bail is not a special achievement, the case will go on and he will soon get a long punishment," he added.

The AAP leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise policy. On June 26, the CBI formally arrested him in a corruption case linked to the alleged scam.

The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail in the money laundering case on July 12 and he is currently in judicial custody in the CBI’s corruption case.
