BJP corporator moves proposal seeking 'Water Security Action Plan' for Pune

Pune, July 15 (UNI) In view of the city’s rapidly growing population, increasing water demand, silt accumulation in dams, leakages in canals, declining groundwater levels and the challenges posed by climate change, Bharatiya Janata Party corporator Haridas Krishna Charwad has submitted a proposal to the civic standing committee, seeking the preparation and immediate implementation of a “Pune Water Security Action Plan”.
The proposal calls for regular desilting of the Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar dams, as well as the adoption of modern technologies to curb leakages in canals and water pipelines.
It also proposes expanding the capacity of sewage treatment plants (STPs) to facilitate the reuse of treated water. In addition, the proposal seeks to make rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge through wells, dual plumbing systems and greywater recycling mandatory in new construction projects.
