BJP alleges misuse of Govt machinery in Panchayat elections

Shimla, May 16 (UNI) Alleging possible misuse of government machinery during the ongoing Panchayati Raj and Zila Parishad elections, BJP on Saturday approached the State Election Commission and sought the immediate transfer of a senior Excise and Taxation Department official.
In a memorandum submitted to the Commission, BJP co-media in-charge Sudeep Mahajan demanded the transfer of Additional Commissioner (South Zone) of the State Taxes and Excise Department, Vivek Chauhan, alleging that his continued posting in an influential position could affect the fairness of the electoral process.
The BJP claimed that the officer had been holding the key post for a prolonged period and had continued in the same assignment even after the Congress government assumed office in the state.
