Bill on anti-human trafficking treats sex workers as victims: Maneka

Belagavi, Mar 2 (UNI) The important draft bill on anti-human trafficking passed by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, doesn’t treat sex workers as perpetrators but victims, Union women and Child development
minister Maneka Gandhi said here.
Addressing a orientation programme of functionaries of family counseling centers on Thursday evening, she said works under Central Social Welfare Board falls under Ministry of Women and Child Development and the proposed law is extremely compassionate towards sex workers. In present law, any women caught engaged in sex trade are put into jail directly by police till the person gives explanation in court, which is senseless.
