Bihar: Legislative Council Chairman asks govt to initiate for providing residence to MLAs & MLCs in Patna

Patna, Mar 19 (UNI) Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awdhesh Narayan Singh on Wednesday asked the state government to take initiatives for providing residence to the MLAs and MLCs in Patna.
Intervening into a reply of Bihar Minister Jivesh Mishra to a question regarding providing land for residence of the MKCs during pre lunch sitting in the upper house, the Chairman said that no one was giving their residence on rent to the leaders. He said under such situation the government should take initiative for residential arrangement in Patna for the elected representatives of the state legislature.Mishra in his reply said that after an amendment made in the year 1998, the provision of two percent reservation in the lands of cooperative societies for elected representatives was abolished. No changes were made in the year 2016 also due to which the elected representatives of the Legislature were not getting land in Patna.To this, the members of Upper house cutting across party lines demanded an amendment into it.Intervening into the reply, the chairman said that the reputation of leaders had become bad to such an extent that no one was renting out their house to them.Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary spoke about the constitution of a committee for solving the sensitive issue and said that the matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.Later Minister Prem Kumar described it as quite important for the elected representatives and said that the Cooperative department would survey and would seriously ponder for providing land to the elected representatives of both the houses for constructing their residences.
