Bihar aims to increase green cover to 17pc

Patna, May 15 (UNI) Bihar Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Ramchandra Prasad has said that the state government has set a target to increase green cover to 17 percent in the coming years.
The minister said here today that at the time of bifurcation, Bihar’s green cover was around 7 percent, which has now increased to nearly 15 percent. Our goal is to raise it further to 17 percent through large-scale plantation drives and public participation, he said.
He added that the department is not only focusing on environmental conservation but is also working to promote eco-tourism across the state. Efforts are underway to develop green zones and tourist-friendly ecological sites. As part of this initiative, the department has set a target to plant five crore saplings during the upcoming monsoon season. A statewide plantation campaign is being planned, which will begin in the first week of July and continue throughout the rainy season.
