BHU researchers identify 47 rare genetic disorders in children

Varanasi, Jun 16 (UNI) A team at the Center for Genetic Disorders at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has successfully enrolled over 300 patients with rare genetic disorders from Varanasi and surrounding districts under the "Mission Program on Pediatric Rare Disorders."
The study, led by Professor Parimal Das, conducted under this research, has identified 47 rare disorders. Most of the identified rare diseases are neurological disorders, with neuromuscular, ophthalmic, skeletal, and cardiac disorders also included.
Genetic reports have been provided to 47 patients so far, revealing 10 new gene variants. This research is part of a pan-India project approved by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
