Bhakra water level rises 30 feet above average, BBMB urges states to draw more water

Chandigarh, Jun 12 (UNI) Water storage in the Bhakra Dam has climbed sharply this season, with the reservoir holding significantly more water than both last year and the long-term average, even as inflows remain lower than those recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
Official data showed the water level at the Bhakra reservoir touching 1,576.22 feet on Thursday. The figure is around 22 feet higher than the level recorded on the same day last year, and nearly 30 feet above the seasonal average, indicating a healthy water position ahead of the peak monsoon period.
The rise has surprised water managers because current inflows into the reservoir are lower than last year's figures.
