Bengali mandatory in all govt offices from September 1: WB CM Adhikari,

Kolkata, July 20 (UNI) The West Bengal government on Monday announced that the use of Bengali will become mandatory across all state government offices from September 1, in a move aimed at expanding the use of the state's official language in administration.
Making the announcement in the Assembly on the opening day of the monsoon session, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said all official correspondence, government notifications and administrative work, including police station records, would gradually be conducted in Bengali after the government completes the necessary preparatory work over the next six weeks.
He also announced that the state government would increase the use of Hindi in its correspondence with the Centre.

Prasad told news persons here that Chidambaram's remark was highly objectionable, particularly because he had himself served as the country's Home Minister and was also a senior Supreme Court lawyer and Rajya Sabha member.
