Bengal: Two former TMC MLAs join Ritabrata Banerjee camp, dealing fresh blow to Kalighat faction

Kolkata, Jul 17 (UNI) The organisational drift away from the Kalighat faction of the Trinamool Congress continued on Friday, with two former party legislators joining the camp led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Bengal Assembly, Ritabrata Banerjee, ahead of the July 21 programme.
Former Bongaon North MLA and ex-president of the Bongaon organisational district, Biswajit Das, and former Rajarhat-New Town MLA and former president of the Barasat organisational district, Tapas Chattopadhyay, formally aligned themselves with Banerjee's camp, strengthening its organisational presence in North 24-Parganas.
Das first met Banerjee in his chamber at the West Bengal Assembly. Opposition Chief Whip Akhruzzaman was also present during the meeting. Soon afterwards, it became clear that Das had severed ties with the Kalighat faction and joined the group led by Banerjee. Within a short time, Chattopadhyay also announced his decision to join the same camp.
