Bengal: Suvendu demands resignation of CM Mamata

Kolkata, Sep 15 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also holds the Home Affairs portfolio, after the CBI arrested a police officer for evidence tampering and delaying the FIR in the lady doctor rape-murder case last month.
Taking to his X handle, the BJP leader also demanded the immediate suspension of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
"(City Police Commissioner) Vineet Goyal should be suspended immediately and Home Minister Mamata Banerjee must resign as she doesn't have any moral authority left to continue as the head of the Home Dept," Ashikari posted on his X handle.
"The arrest of Abhijit Mondal; Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala Police Station (PS), has established that the police were directly involved in tampering (with) evidence and acted as a stimulant to create a lacuna in order to derail the investigation in the rape and murder of the RG Kar PGT lady doctor," the BJP leader claimed.
The federal agency arrested Tata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abhijit Mondal on Saturday night after sustained interrogation.
The police station has jurisdiction over the area housing the colonial-era R G Kar Medical College and Hospital (RKMCH), to which the 31-year-old post-graduate trainee medic was attached. Her brutalised body was found at the seminar room of the RGKMCH on August 9.
Adhikari alleged the "procedural lapses" were "well orchestrated" and "closely monitored" by the top officials of Kolkata Police. UNI PC SSP
