Bengal: Ex-minister Ujjal Biswas arrested, assaulted, pelted with eggs after mob storms residence

Krishnagar, June 9 (UNI) Former West Bengal minister Ujjal Biswas of Trinamool Congress was arrested on Tuesday for alleged illegal hoarding of government relief materials meant for distribution to the poor at his residence here in Nadia district, police said.
Earlier, the minister was physically assaulted, heckled and pelted with eggs after a violent mob stormed his residence in the afternoon, accusing him of hoarding the relief materials.
The attack unfolded when a large group of BJP workers and residents gathered outside his house following allegations that tarpaulin sheets, rags and sarees — supplied for disaster relief and welfare distribution — had been stored for years without being distributed. The situation quickly escalated as protesters broke through security and forced entry into the premises.

Odisha panel clears premature release of Dara Singh, convicted in Staines murder case

Bhubaneswar, Jul 14 (UNI) The Odisha State Sentence Review Board (OSSRB) has recommended the premature release of Dara Singh, the life convict in the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons in Odisha's Keonjhar district, citing his "good behaviour" in prison.
The recommendation was made during the Board's meeting earlier this month, where it reviewed the cases of eligible life convicts for possible premature release.
