Bengal: Congress to screen TMC entrants; no place for leaders with criminal or corruption records

Malda, June 9 (UNI) Amid reports of growing discontent within the Trinamool Congress following the political change in West Bengal, sections of TMC leaders and workers are exploring a shift to the Congress in several districts, including Malda, Cooch Behar and Darjeeling district.
The trend has already been reflected in Cooch Behar, where defections by TMC councillors recently helped the Congress gain control of a municipality. Congress leaders in Siliguri have also claimed that several TMC leaders and even some councillors are in touch with the party. Similar indications have emerged from Malda, traditionally considered a Congress stronghold.
Against this backdrop, South Malda MP and Malda district Congress president Isha Khan Choudhury has directed party leaders across the district to exercise caution while inducting workers and leaders from the erstwhile ruling party.
