Bengal: Budget proposes 4 percent hike in DA for govt employees

Kolkata, Feb 12 (UNI) West Bengal Finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya on Wednesday presented a budget of Rs 3.89 lakh crore for fiscal year 2025-26 in the state assembly, while announcing a proposed four percent hike in the DA (Dearness Allowance) for the government employees amidst boycott by the opposition BJP.
Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari led the boycott of the house sometime after the budget was tabled and dubbed the budget proposals as anti-people, saying there was no provision for job opportunity for over 2.15 crore unemployed youths in the state.
The enhanced 4 pc DA for all the government, semi-government employees, teachers, and pensioners will be effective from April one, 2025. With the enhanced DA, the total increase of DA comes to 18 percent for the state government employees.
