Barnala girl among three from Punjab selected for prestigious Sakura Science High School Program in Japan

Chandigarh, April 1 (UNI) In a significant achievement for the state's public education system, Alisha Rani, a Class 12 student of Government Senior Secondary Smart School (Girls), Barnala, has been selected by the Ministry of Education for a prestigious week-long educational tour to Japan.
Representing a "flight of dreams," Alisha is one of only three students chosen from Punjab and among 56 selected nationwide to participate in the Sakura Science High School Programme 2026. The programme, organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy, is scheduled to take place from May 24 to May 30, 2026, focusing on enhancing knowledge in the fields of science and technology.
District Education Officer (Secondary) Suniteinder Singh highlighted that the Ministry of Education selects students based on high-level national achievements. Alisha has a consistent track record of academic excellence, having previously cleared the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) exam, which earned her a scholarship of Rs 12 lakh.
