Baramulla erupts in celebration as Auqib Nabi bags Rs 8.40 cr IPL deal

Srinagar, Dec 16 (UNI) Celebrations erupted across Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday after local fast bowler Auqib Nabi, 28, was picked up by Delhi Capitals for a whopping Rs 8.40 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, with leaders including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulating the young cricketer on his historic achievement.
The announcement of Nabi’s name at the auction triggered scenes of jubilation at his ancestral home in Sheeri, Baramulla, where family members distributed sweets, embraced one another and offered prayers. Celebrations were also held in Baramulla town as the news spread, with locals thronging the streets to share the moment of pride.
In Sheeri, festivities continued well into the night despite the biting cold. Firecrackers were burst, slogans were raised in praise of the young pacer and drums were beaten by youngsters to express their joy. Many residents garlanded Auqib’s father, Ghulam Nabi, a school teacher, as the entire locality turned into a celebratory venue.
