Bank loan recovery improves in UP

Lucknow, Jul 12(UNI) Bank loan recovery has improved significantly over the past year in Uttar Pradesh, reports here said.
According to a joint report submitted by banks to the government recently, pending recovery certificates (RCs) have decreased from 23.23 lakh to 9.32 lakh, a reduction of 13.91 lakh. The pending amount associated with these certificates has also decreased from Rs 36,994 crore to Rs 17,856 crore.
Pending applications under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act have also decreased from 4,953 to 4,497. However, the report also highlights the need for expeditious disposal of pending cases at the district level and the development of a separate portal for monitoring SARFAESI cases.
Officials said comparing the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) reports for December 2024 and March 2026, there has been a significant improvement in bank loan recovery. There has also been a slight improvement in pending cases under the SARFAESI Act at the District Magistrate level. In December 2024, there were 4,953 such pending applications, which decreased to 4,497 by March 2026, meaning 456 cases were resolved.
Banks have stated that delays in providing property possession at the district level are impacting their loan recovery. Consequently, they have requested the Revenue Department and District Administration to expedite the resolution of pending cases.
Banks have proposed developing a separate portal for monitoring SARFAESI cases in 2026. A joint meeting of the Revenue Department, Home Department, SLBC, and major banks has been scheduled to finalize the format.
The report also states that the Revenue Council has been advised to update the portal and coordinate the status of the process to match the RC data filed online by banks with the actual recovery. Furthermore, emphasis has been placed on expediting the process of providing physical possession in SARFAESI cases by District Magistrates.
