Bangladesh stops construction of mosque after BSF interferes

Silchar, Mar 25 (UNI) The Bangladeshi nationals of Gajukata village under Sylhet district started construction of the permanent structure in the guise of renovation of Mosque within 20 meters of the international boundary, which is a violation of the mutually agreed India-Bangladesh Border Guidelines for Border Authorities -1975 in which no construction of permanent nature is allowed within 150 yards on either side of the international boundary, a BSF communique said on Thursday.
A spokesman of BSF’s Mizoram and Cachar Frontier said the said area falls opposite village Lafasail under Karimganj district of Assam. “Initially the BSF authorities had approached the BGB to stop the construction work at the site and they agreed upon. But in the intervening night of 20/21 March some Bangladeshi nationals started the construction of the work installing the high powered beam lights pointing towards the Indian territory so as to blind the BSF from observing their works and movements”, the spokesman said.
Further, the BSF authorities said, it was observed that they also played loudspeaker at full volume to suppress the sound of the construction activities of the said construction works. They continued the construction work during the night ignoring all requests and protest by the BSF troops. All these construction activities were done behind a big polythene screen so as to hide the construction from the observation of the BSF and the said poly sheet screen after it was removed revealed that the illegal construction was actually going on.
