Dhaka, June 15 (UNI) Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League (AL) MP Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered in Kolkata last month to clear the way for a party rival to contest from his seat in the by-election, one of the accused has confessed in court.
Accused Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, an Awami League activist, admitted to court that he was involved in the murder of the Jhenaidah-4 MP, Bangladesh news outlet The Daily Star reported on Saturday.
According to court sources quoted in the report, Babu said he was close to the general secretary of Jhenaidah district AL Saidul Karim Mintu, and wanted him to get the ticket from the Jhenaidah-4 parliamentary seat, from which Azim had won thrice in a row.
