B'desh: Plea in court to name Sheikh Hasina as accused in police firing death

Dhaka, Aug 13 (UNI) Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six officials have been named as accused in a murder complaint filed in a local court here over the killing of grocery shop owner in police firing during anti-quota stir on July 19, media reports said on Tuesday.
Amir Hamza Shatil, a Mohammadpur resident and victim Abu Sayeed 's well-wisher, filed a court complaint against Sheikh Hasina and others with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury, The Daily Star reported.
Hearing the complaint, the judge said, "After scrutinising the document submitted before the court, we will pass an order later."
Others named in the complaint as accused include Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, and former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker, the media report said.
Shatil said he was forced to file the complaint as the victim's family members, who live at Boda upazila in Panchagarh district, were not in a position to do so.
This is the first complaint seeking to name exiled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an accused for the deaths in police firing during anti-quota protests.
