Australian research discovers brain swelling in long Covid, chronic fatigue patients

Sydney, Feb 11 (UNI) Swelling in an area of the brain associated with memory and concentration has been identified in long COVID and chronic fatigue patients by Australian researchers.
In a study published on Tuesday, researchers from Griffith University used an ultra high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine to analyze how long COVID and myalgic encephalomyelitis -- also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) -- similarly impact brain structure.
The team identified significantly larger hippocampus volume in long COVID and CFS patients compared to healthy individuals.
