Atishi video row: Punjab DGP says matter under probe, avoids detailed comment

Chandigarh, Jan 12 (UNI) Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday termed the controversy surrounding a viral video of AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena as an “ongoing matter,” refraining from offering detailed comments on the issue. The DGP was addressing the media in Chandigarh during a press briefing related to the Amritsar sarpanch murder case.
Responding to questions about the registration of an FIR in Jalandhar over the sharing of the video on social media, the DGP said that the primary responsibility of the DGP’s office lies in policy-making, while operational decisions and investigations are handled at the district level. He also declined to comment on the notice reportedly issued by the Delhi Assembly to senior Punjab Police officials in connection with the case.
The controversy erupted after several leaders, including Delhi BJP minister Kapil Mishra, shared a video of Atishi on social media, alleging that it contained remarks offensive to Sikh religious sentiments. Following the circulation of the clip, the Punjab Police registered a case in Jalandhar, citing concerns over communal harmony.
