Atal, Omarzai lift Afghanistan to 188/6 in Asia Cup opener

Abu Dhabi, Sep 9 (UNI) Sediqullah Atal’s half-century and Azmatullah Omarzai’s late blitz powered Afghanistan to a commanding 188 for six against Hong Kong in their Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 Group B opener here tonight.
Atal, who was dropped twice by Hong Kong skipper Yasim Murtaza, made full use of the chances to bring up his third T20I fifty in his last four innings, underscoring his growing consistency at the top. The left-hander anchored the innings with fluent strokeplay against spin before falling soon after reaching the milestone.
If Atal’s knock anchored the innings, Omarzai’s late fireworks gave Afghanistan the final flourish. Walking in with just under four overs left, the allrounder unleashed an array of strokes — from powerful slogs to inventive ramps — on his way to a maiden T20I half-century (53) off just 21 balls. His explosive innings helped Afghanistan smash 58 runs in the space of 16 balls, ensuring they finished on a high.
