Assam to supply power to Bangladesh through Tripura

Agartala, Jan 16 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said Assam has shown interest in exporting its surplus electricity to Bangladesh by using the north eastern state as a transmission corridor.
Tripura has been supplying excess power to Bangladesh since 2016 under a bilateral arrangement. Speaking to the media during a programme for distributing woollen clothes and blankets here, Saha said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Tripura recently, during which several key issues were discussed.
One of the major discussions took place at the Churaibari check post along the Assam–Tripura border. Saha highlighted that the existing road infrastructure at the location is very narrow, causing frequent traffic congestion. He said he requested the Assam Chief Minister to consider widening the road to ease vehicular movement.
