APWWS urges Govt to set up child-friendly Special POCSO Courts in Arunachal

Itanagar, June 14 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has urged the State Government for the establishment of separate child-friendly Special Courts under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 in the State capital and across various districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
In a representation submitted to the Commissioner (Law), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, the APWWS said while District and Sessions Courts and Additional Sessions Courts have been designated as Special POCSO Courts under Section 28 of the Act, the lack of appropriate child-sensitive infrastructure and environment continues to hamper the effective delivery of justice.
“Despite the Act being in force for over a decade, Arunachal Pradesh still lacks the necessary facilities to ensure a child-sensitive legal process....The absence of separate waiting rooms and dedicated facilities frequently results in traumatic encounters between child victims and the accused. In several instances, child victims have come face-to-face with alleged perpetrators due to inadequate infrastructure, severely compromising their mental and emotional well-being,” the Society said.
