AP: Totapuri mango farmers being paid Rs 12 per kg, says Chittor Collector

Chittoor, July 7 (UNI) Chittoor District Collector Sumit Kumar has made it clear that the mango farmers are being paid Rs 8 per kg for their Totapuri variety of mango while the Government is extending Rs 4 as incentive.
The farmers are being paid Rs 12 per kg for their Totapuri variety of mango, the Collector said in a release here today.
Reiterating that the Government is extending all needed support to the mango farmers, the Collector stated that so far 2,22,718 tonnes of mangoes had been purchased from 38,706 farmers. The Collector noted that mango orchards are spread in 3.98 lakh hectares in the State and the farmers yield 12.50 metric tonnes of mango produce in each hectare.

Lightning strike kills four students, injures three in Kerala’s Malappuram

Kozhikode, May 12 (UNI) Four students died after being struck by lightning, while three others were injured, at Mankada in Kerala’s Malappuram district.
The deceased have been identified as Rahees (20), Vahas (18), Siad (18) and Fahad (19), all natives of Vellila.
Three others were injured and are currently undergoing treatment at the Manjeri Medical College Hospital.
