Anupriya Patel calls for greater focus on early detection to tackle rising burden of NCDs

Bhubaneswar, July 18 (UNI) union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel on Saturday urged healthcare professionals to place equal emphasis on prevention and early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), stressing that the growing burden of lifestyle-related illnesses requires a decisive shift from a treatment-centric approach to preventive healthcare.
Addressing the sixth Convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Patel said India has made remarkable progress in preventive healthcare through the world's largest population-based screening programme. Under the initiative, every individual aged 30 years and above is being screened for five major health conditions—diabetes, hypertension, oral cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer.
Highlighting the country's rapid digital health transformation, she said the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is strengthening India's healthcare ecosystem by enabling integrated and technology-driven health services.
