Anti-drug meetings held in four Kangra district panchayats: Strict action planned against chitta peddling and consumption

Dharamshala, Dec 15 (UNI) Anti-drug meetings were organised in four panchayats of Fatehpur development block in Kangra district—Chalwara, Batrahan, Hatli and Sunet—with the objective of curbing the growing menace of drug abuse.
As part of this initiative, a meeting of the Gram Panchayat Batrahan was held under the chairmanship of Panchayat Pradhan Anita Devi. Members of the Drug Prevention Committee unanimously passed a resolution stating that if any person is found involved in the sale, consumption or trafficking of chitta or any other intoxicating substance within the panchayat area, the matter will be immediately reported to the police. It was also decided to launch special awareness campaigns to keep the youth away from drugs.
Adopting a strict stance against drug abuse, the Gram Panchayat Batrahan decided that in the first phase, youths found trapped in drug addiction would be counselled and given an opportunity to reform. However, if any person continues to be involved in drug-related activities, strict police action will be recommended. The panchayat also resolved that government benefits and assistance provided through the panchayat would be discontinued for those found involved in the drug trade.
