Anchorage port workers threaten stoppage of loading and unloading in Kakinada

Kakinada, Aug 10(UNI) Anchorage port Jattu coolies union has announced that it would stop barges loading and unloading operations from Monday onwards in protest against the unusual delay of cargo arrival by lorries due to delay at the check posts opened near the Bombay weighing bridge in the port area.
The union in a letter on Saturday drew the attention of the Cocanada chamber chairman that the government has recently opened check posts to check clandestine export of PDS rice and lorries getting stranded forming beelines leading to delays in the arrival of cargo at the jetties.
The union further said that Jattu coolies who were able to load the barge within four to five hours now took three to four days there by a drastic cut in their wages. The union has urged the Cocanada chamber to take up the issue with the concerned authorities and save them from distress.
