AMD resumes AI Chip sales to China

New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) In a liberalized trade move, AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) announced that it will start shipments of 'M1308' artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. The 'M1308' chips are the electronic components used for the processing of large data volumes for managing the AI workloads efficiently. AMD also pointed out that the US Department of Commerce is currently reviewing the applications for trade resumption submitted by AMD.
This came days after the announcement on trade resumption made by Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang about resuming sales of its H20 AI chips in China.
Developments of these trade resumptions come at a time when there are heightened trade-related tensions in the world due to the threat of tariff imposition by the US.
Trade resumption also led to bearish results for both Nvidia and AMD by the mark of 4.04 per cent and 6.41 per cent. The shares of Arm Holdings and Broadcom also showed signs of economic optimism.
Financial analysts termed this news as “clearly a positive development” in the realm of AI chip trade. They highlighted that it will benefit the whole chips trading ecosystem and foster the modern AI building capacities.
