Paris, Aug 8 (UNI) Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat continued his impressive run at the Paris 2024 Olympics by storming into the quarterfinals of the men's 57kg freestyle wrestling event.
Aman defeated Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia with a commanding 10-0 victory in the round of 16 on Thursday.
The Asian champion displayed exceptional technique, securing the win on technical superiority with two minutes remaining in the second period. His dominant performance not only earned him a spot in the quarter-finals but also raised hopes for a potential medal in wrestling for India.
Aman’s next challenge will be against Albania's Zelimkhan Abakarov, a world champion and a formidable opponent in the weight category.
The upcoming quarter-final bout is expected to be a tough test for the Indian wrestler, who will need to bring his best game to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Vladimir Egorov, on the other hand, could still have a chance to compete for a bronze medal if Aman advances to the final, which would allow Egorov to enter the repechage rounds.
India's focus will soon shift to Anshu Malik, who is set to compete in her bout later today. Indian fans are eagerly awaiting to see if she can replicate Aman's success and advance further in the competition.
