Akon’s India tour kicks off in Delhi, fans groove to classics

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) Global music icon Akon made a sensational return to Delhi, setting the stage ablaze with his electrifying performance and making the crowd groove to his infectious beats.
The Grammy-nominated singer had fans singing and dancing along to his biggest hits from the 2000s and 2010s, including “Smack That,” “Lonely,” “Right Now,” “Bananza,” “Ghetto,” “I Wanna Love You,” and “Don’t Matter.” The concert opened with his 2009 chart-topper “Beautiful,” instantly creating the perfect mood before ramping up the energy with fan favourites.
Adding a heartwarming touch to the high-octane show, Akon was joined on stage by his wife, Amirah-Iman Thiam. Their duet performance brought an emotional highlight, earning cheers from the audience.
The concert reached its peak when Akon performed the Bollywood hit “Chammak Challo,” his iconic collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan. Original vocalist Hamsika Iyer joined him on stage, reigniting nostalgia and delighting the crowd amid dazzling lights and visuals.
Fans could be heard chanting, “Akon! Akon!” throughout the show. In a heartfelt message, Akon called India his “family,” expressing his love for the country and its people.
Earlier, twin singers Sukriti and Prakriti Kakar set the tone for the evening with their dynamic Hindi and English hits. Their performance concluded with Sukriti’s “Jhoome Jo Pathaan,” leaving the crowd energized for Akon’s set.
Akon’s Delhi concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was on last Sunday marked the first leg of his special India tour, with upcoming shows scheduled for Bengaluru on November 14 and Mumbai on November 16.
