Akal Takht urges SGPC cooperation in probe into missing Guru Granth Sahib Saroops

Chandigarh, Jan 12 (UNI) In a significant shift from its earlier position, the Akal Takht on Monday called upon the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to extend cooperation to the Punjab Police in the investigation into the disappearance of 328 ‘saroops’ (sacred copies) of Guru Granth Sahib.
In an official statement, Acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, appealed to Sikh leaders, spokespersons, and scholars to maintain restraint and refrain from making allegations against any individual or organization until the police investigation is concluded. He said premature statements were contributing to confusion among the Sikh community.
The SGPC had earlier expressed its unwillingness to assist the police probe, stating that action had already been taken against employees found responsible, in line with the findings of a three-member inquiry committee constituted by the Akal Takht and headed by Ishar Singh.
