Aizawl likely to feature on railway map by July, says MP Vanlalvena

Aizawl, Mar 18 (UNI)Mizoram’s dream of being connected to the national Railway network is set to become a reality by July this year, with the much-awaited Bairabi–Sairang broad gauge railway project nearing completion. This was announced by Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena during a discussion on Railway projects in the Upper House on Monday.
Vanlalvena informed the House that he was personally briefed by the Deputy Chief Engineer of Railways, who assured him that the 51.38-km railway line between Bairabi in Assam’s border and Sairang near Aizawl would be ready for inauguration by July. He took the opportunity to invite all Rajya Sabha members to attend the grand opening of the railway line.
Giving a detailed account of the project, the MP said that nearly 95 per cent of the construction work has been completed, with Rs 7,714 crore already spent out of the estimated Rs 8,215 crore. The Railway line will feature four stations — Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang and Sairang-Sihhmui. He added that the project includes the construction of 32 underground tunnels and 15 cut-and-cover tunnels, along with 55 major and 89 minor bridges.

Ranchi, April 19 (UNI) union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday criticised the Congress and its allies over the women’s reservation issue, alleging they failed to support the legislation. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office here, Sonowal said the Centre had brought the Nari Shakti Vandan Act to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women and strengthen their political participation.
