AIADMK condemns Kar's push for Mekedatu dam project, urges TVK govt to stall it

Chennai, June 13 (UNI) Strongly condemning Karnataka 's continued push to implement the Mekedatu dam project across river Cauvery, the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu on Saturday urged the ruling TVK headed by Chief Minister Vijay to take all steps to stall the move and secure due share of monthly quantum of water as mandated by the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and save the farmers in delta districts hit by non-release of water from Mettur dam due to inadequate storage level.
In a statement here, AIADMK General Secretary said Mr D K Shivakumar, while being the Deputy Chief Minister and holding the Water Resources portfolio in the Siddaramaiah cabinet, had been pushing the dam project by preparing the Detailed Project Project (DPR) and sending it to the Centre for approval and announced allocation of several thousand crores for it.
The union government, however, citing some shortcomings, had returned the DPR back to Karnataka.
