Afghan govt reject US allegations of women rights violations as false

Kabul, Nov 11 (UNI) The Afghan Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice said on Monday that the claims put forth by the US Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) about alleged women’s rights violations were "far from the truth."
The latest quarterly SIGAR report claimed that the new law from the Ministry of Vice and Virtue restricts human rights and fundamental freedoms in Afghan society.
"The SIGAR report, like previous ones, is far from the truth and is based on baseless accusations. No freedoms or women’s rights have been violated or rescinded; rather, the Ministry of Vice and Virtue has worked to restore those rights of women that had been denied under meaningless customs and stigmas in this society," ministry spokesperson Saif-ul-Islam Khaibar was quoted by the Tolo News broadcaster as saying.
