Adani Power inks deal to set up 570 MW Hydel Power Project in Bhutan

Mumbai, Sep 6 (UNI) Adani Power officially announced here today that it has signed a deal with Bhutan's state-owned utility Druk Green Power to set up a 570 MW hydroelectric power project at an investment of Rs 6,000 crore, in Bhutan.
According to the statement, Adani Power and Druk Green Power Corp Ltd (DGPC), will initiate the peaking run-of-river Wangchhu hydroelectric project on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) model.
A power purchase agreement (PPA) and a concession agreement were signed in this regard in the presence of Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, the company statement mentioned.
"The Wangchhu hydroelectric project will critically meet Bhutan's peak winter demand, when hydro power generation is low. During the summer months, it would export power to India," Adani Power CEO SB Khyalia said.
The detailed project report has been completed and construction work is expected to begin by the first half of 2026, while operationalisation of the project has been targeted within five years of groundbreaking.
The Wangchhu project is the first hydroelectric project to be taken up under an MoU signed in May 2025 between the Adani Group and the DGPC of Bhutan to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydroelectric power in Bhutan.
