Tunis, Feb. 18 (UNI) The Tunisian National Guard announced on Monday that seven migrants were rescued from a sinking boat off the northern coast of Tunisia.
According to a statement on the National Guard's Facebook page, the rescue operation took place near the coast of Sidi Mechreg in Bizerte province. The statement did not specify the timing of the rescue or the nationalities of the migrants.
"They encountered difficulties while attempting to sail illegally on Feb. 6 from a coastal city in a neighboring country," the statement said.
The rescued migrants were taken to the port of Bizerte, where civil defense teams provided first aid before transferring them to the regional hospital for further medical care.
Tunisia, located in the central Mediterranean, is one of the main transit points for illegal immigration to Europe.

Kabul, Dec 6 (UNI) Four Afghan civilians were killed and four others injured after Pakistani forces opened fire in the border town of Spin Boldak in southern Kandahar province, TOLO news reported on Saturday.
The exchange of fire reflects an escalation in violence between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban forces, with both sides accusing the other of violating a fragile ceasefire.
Residents of Spin Boldak, located along the 1,600-mile (2,600 km) border, fled overnight amid the exchange of fire, which reportedly began around 22:30 local time on Friday.
