42nd IKBF starts journey through an Indo-French handshake

Kolkata, Jan 30 (UNI) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Ambassador of France to India Alexandre Ziegler today inaugurated the 42nd Kolkata International Book Fair 2018 at a gala event at Salt Lake here.
Legendary actor and thespian Soumitra Chatterjee struck the hammer 42 times, signalling the years. France is the theme country of this year's fair.
Miss Banerjee said, "We are deeply honoured to have our diplomatic friend France as the focal theme country. For me France is the cultural capital of the world and Kolkata is cultural capital of India. So it's nothing but an exchange of culture. Book fair is a kind of silent revolution."
