200 km new sewer lines to be laid in Varanasi at Rs. 527 cr cost

Varanasi, Jan 13 (UNI) Several projects for the development of the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi) are gradually taking shape, even as drainage remains a major problem in the newly developed urban areas.
The problem of sewer overflow persists in the older wards. In many neighbourhoods along the banks of the Ganges, the sewer system has completely collapsed, making sewer overflow a permanent problem.
On Tuesday, Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari announced that new pipelines will be laid in 18 old wards. The state government has approved the laying of 200 kilometers of new sewer lines in 13 old wards at an estimated cost of Rs. 527 crore.
