Ramallah, Sep 11 (UNI) Two Palestinians have been killed and 10 others injured in an Israeli military operation in northern West Bank's Tulkarm city, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources on Tuesday.
One of the victims was shot in the head, while the other, a female, suffered a severe stroke and died following nearby gunfire and explosions, Radwan Bleibla, head of Tulkarm's Palestinian Doctors Association, told Xinhua.
The bodies of the dead were brought to local hospitals, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a press statement.
According to local Palestinian sources, Israeli forces stormed Tulkarm, besieging its hospitals amidst gunfire and demolishing infrastructure along the roads of the city's refugee camp with military bulldozers.
Meanwhile, Avichai Adraee, spokesperson for the Israeli army, said in a statement that large forces from the army, Israel's internal security service Shin Bet, and the Israel Border Police are targeting "terrorist infrastructure" in Tulkarm as part of an ongoing campaign against "terrorism" in the West Bank.
The statement did not provide further details on the operation.
Israel launched a large-scale raid across the northern West Bank on August 28, stating that the operation aimed to arrest wanted persons and prevent future attacks against Israel.
The operation, which reportedly lasted for 10 days, primarily targeted the cities of Jenin, Tubas and Tulkarm as well as their camps, and was said to have killed nearly 40 Palestinians, injured some 145 others, and severely damaged local infrastructure and residential buildings.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 690 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the West Bank since the onset of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip last October.
