13 killed, 20 injured in highway mishap, CM declares ₹5 Lakh ex-gratia to next of kin

Mumbai, May 18 (UNI) Thirteen persons were killed and atleast 20 others injured in a devastating accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway in Palghar district of Maharashtra in the early hours on Monday.
The accident occurred near Dhaniwari on the busy highway when a tempo carrying wedding guests collided with a speeding container truck at around 4 am, according to preliminary police reports.
Both vehicles overturned resulting in multiple deaths on the spot and leaving several passengers critically injured. Officials said the tempo was believed to be carrying more than 35 to 40 people. They were either returning from or travelling to a wedding-related function. Many of the victims were reportedly members of the same family.
