'Poker Face' axed after two seasons

Los Angeles, Nov 14 (UNI) The curtain has fallen on "Poker Face" after two acclaimed seasons, yet the creative forces behind the series are already preparing for its next chapter.
Creator Rian Johnson and star-producer Nayasha Lyonne are determined to keep the lie-detecting drifter Charlie Cale on the road, reports VARIETY.
According to industry sources, Johnson and producer MRC are actively shopping a reimagined version of the acclaimed mystery drama with Peter Dinklage poised to step into the lead role. Their vision reimagines the show as a long-form anthology in which the principal role is recast every two seasons, a structural flourish designed to keep the narrative architecture both supple and surprising.
Lyonne would stay on the series as an executive producer, while Johnson would remain a writer and director. It’s unclear who would serve as the showrunner. (Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman led the show in its first season, and Tony Tost took over for Season 2.)
Johnson and Lyonne said in a statement: “We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our ‘Poker Face’ and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”
“Poker Face” debuted in 2021, inspired by mystery-of-the-week series like “Columbo.” It followed Lyonne’s nomadic sleuth Charlie Cale, who has a special ability to detect lies. The show featured dozens of guest stars, from John Mulaney playing a dirty FBI agent to Cynthia Erivo playing sextuplets. The series scored six Emmy nominations across its two seasons, winning one for Judith Light’s guest role. The series is produced by MRC and T-Street.
Dinklage is a four-time Emmy winner best known for playing Tyrion Lannister on “Game of Thrones.” He recently starred in the Channing Tatum-led dramedy “Roofman” and voices Dr. Dillamond in the “Wicked” movies. UNI NST SSP
