‘Minecraft 2’ officially announced, set for July 2027 release

Washington, Oct 10 (UNI) Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that a sequel to the blockbuster hit "A Minecraft" is under production.
Titled "Minecraft 2", the highly anticipated follow-up is scheduled to hit theatres on July 23, 2027, the studio announced via Instagram.
The first film, which debuted in April 2025, was a massive box office success. Based on the globally popular video game, the PG-rated adventure opened to an impressive USD 162 million domestically and USD 312 million worldwide in its first weekend.
According to Variety, the film closed its theatrical run with a staggering USD 957 million globally, making it the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025, just behind Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, which earned USD 1.03 billion.
Jared Hess, who directed the original film, will return to helm the sequel and co-write the screenplay alongside Chris Galletta. The original cast featured Jack Black as Steve and Jason Momoa in leading roles, portraying a group of unlikely heroes transported through a portal into the blocky, pixelated world of Minecraft.
Jack Black’s portrayal of the expert crafter Steve was particularly praised by fans. Returning to produce the sequel are Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Jason Momoa.
"A Minecraft" not only exceeded box office expectations but also played a key role in reviving Warner Bros’ theatrical fortunes following several underwhelming releases such as Joker: Folie à Deux, Mickey 17, and The Alto Knights.
The studio followed its success with a string of box office hits including Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, F1: The Movie, Superman, Weapons, and The Conjuring: Last Rites.
Warner Bros. capped off 2025 with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which grossed USD 110 million in its first two weeks against a USD 130 million budget.
With "Minecraft 2" now on the horizon, Warner Bros. looks to continue its winning streak and further build on the massive success of the first film.
