'Kevin Spacey would tell us to draw from our experiences': Disha Patani

Mumbai, Jul 12 (UNI) Actress Disha Patani has shared insights into her experience of working with Kevin Spacey on her Hollywood debut, "Holiguards Saga: The Portal of Force", describing the Academy Award-winning actor as a filmmaker who encourages performers to trust their instincts and actively participate in shaping their characters.
Patani says Spacey encourages actors to draw from their own lives and instincts. “He is amazing. Being an actor, he understands his actors. He is one of the finest actors in the world. He gives his actors a lot of space to experiment. He would tell us to draw from our own experiences. We would be encouraged to think of questions like ‘How would you react to a situation like this?’ ‘Would you cry?’ ‘What would you feel?’ ‘How would you emote?’ Every morning, he would sit with us and take us through the scene. I found that really special. I don’t think I had done that with any of the creators in the past. It’s also like taking some responsibility in understanding the character and delivering it,” she shares to Variety India.
Beyond reflecting on her Hollywood debut, Patani also offered a candid assessment of the realities of entering the international film industry. She said many people mistakenly believe talent alone is enough to secure opportunities, whereas the international industry functions through a far more structured system involving auditions, talent agencies, representation and logistical requirements.
Although technology has made remote auditions increasingly common, she believes building professional relationships and remaining physically present within the industry's ecosystem substantially improves one's prospects.
The 34-year-old actress was last seen in "Welcome to the Jungle".
