Will BJP bank on Raman Singh vis-a-vis Rajnandgaon?

Will BJP bank on Raman Singh vis-a-vis Rajnandgaon?

Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, Mar 15 (UNI) Adjoining Maharashtra’s Gondia District and Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat, Rajnandgaon parliamentary constituency was once a Congress citadel but witnessed the saffron banner being victoriously unfurled over it in the past couple of polls and speculation is rife that the Bharatiya Janata Party is to field erstwhile chief minister Raman Singh owing to the state’s altered political circumstances.

Considered the state's cultural capital, this area has been represented by Congress General Secretary (Administration) and erstwhile undivided Madhya Pradesh chief minister Motilal Vora and Dr Singh. Since 1957, the Congress won the seat on nine occasions, the BJP six times and the Janata Party (JP) once.

Dr Singh is the legislator from Rajnandgaon while his son Abhishek Singh is MP. The father was elected from here to the Lok Sabha in 1999 when he vanquished Mr Vora by a margin of approximately 26,000. Dr Singh served as minister of state in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee dispensation.
