Union Min lays foundation for cruise terminal at Vizag port

Visakhapatnam, Sep 24 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur laid the foundation for construction of the Cruise Terminal at Visakhapatnam Port here on Friday.
Talking to reporters, Mr Thakur said the project, which was conceived about three years ago, was conceived to develop a cruise-cum-coastal cargo terminal by reorienting the existing channel berth, located in the outer harbor with financial assistance under the Central sector scheme from the Ministry of Tourism.
The proposal was to construct a new 180 m long berth with two mooring dolphins on either side, with a total length of 330 m to accommodate 300 m LOA, 37.6 m Beam and 8.1 m Draft vessels, he said a terminal building of 2,000 sq.m. with all amenities such as Gangways, lounge, restaurant, immigration and customs facilities, entertainment and shopping would also be provided for the benefit of tourists arriving by the cruise vessels.
