Tripura tribal apex body seeks intervention on infiltration

Agartala, Sep 23 (UNI) The apex body of Tripura tribal - Council of Tiprasa Hoda raised voice against infiltration in the state and sought immediate intervention of the Central and State Government for stopping illegal entry from Bangladesh.
Besides, Bangalees from plains of Bangladesh, Chakma tribes from the Chittagong Hill Tracts has continuously been infiltrating Tripura and other parts of the country especially, in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal and Delhi with the help of a section of Chakma intellectuals, top-level government employees belonging to Chakma community, alleged Convener, Council of Tiprasa Hoda, Birendra Tripura.
He alleged that since independence Tripura has been facing large-scale immigration from East Pakistan and the situation turned worse after the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, which reduced the indigenous communities to the minority. The continuous influx from Bangladesh has created an adverse effect on land and resources and also, on the culture, tradition and lifestyle of Tripura.
